About Us

  • Charleston's Good Morning Lowcountry column has filled the top half of Page 2B in The Post and Courier every day since its inception in 2000. GMLc celebrates life in a particular place (the South Carolina Lowcountry) with a particular voice and a particular perspective: That the world is a fascinating place, but not until after we've had our coffee.

GMLc FAQ

1. Who are you?
We could tell you but then we'd have to sic the dogs on you. We are over-educated, underpaid wage slaves and information junkies whose curiosity can barely be slaked every day.

2. Why do you refer to yourself as "we"?
Queen2 It's a hangover from the early days of the Good Morning Lowcountry column when a group of metro editors shared its writing. Now one person writes GMLc seven days a week, but when that writer takes a well-deserved vacation to the Bahamas or China, another writer fills in. You see the advantage of the royal "we."

3. Are you really anonymous?
Well, no. If you call us up we'll tell you who we are and we won't lie... but then we'd have to sic the dogs on you.

4. Why do you call Lowcountry residents "pluff-mudders"?
Because that's what they are.

5. What is pluff mud?
If you're from the Lowcountry, you know.

If you recently arrived, you'll know soon enough. It's OK, just wait for a fisherman in a passing boat to pull you out of it.

If you aren't from here or already here, next time you visit the Lowcountry get in touch with GMLc. We'll take you for a little stroll at low tide.
